Code of Ethics

  • Operate under state guidelines
    The therapist will achieve clinical hours in an accredited program
    The therapist will keep an up-to-date license to perform therapeutic massage

  • Operate within scope of practice

    The therapist will not diagnose or treat medical conditions

    The therapist will refer clients out to specialists or doctors, as needed

  • Provide services that will benefit the client

    The therapist will not perform therapeutic massage solely for financial gain

    The therapist will discontinue service, as necessary, if the client’s needs are not being met

  • Protection of all medical information

    The therapist will keep up-to-date on all HIPAA regulations

    The therapist will keep all records locked within a filing cabinet, which will also be locked within an office

  • Regularly refresh skills and gain knowledge by continuing education

    The therapist will stay up-to-date on new modalities that will benefit their clients

    The therapist will gain further insight into standard modalities

  • Respect client boundaries
    The therapist will drape the client appropriately
    The therapist will adjust the massage to the client’s comfort level

  • Abstain from any romantic or sexual relationships with clients

    The therapist will terminate the therapeutic relationship immediately

    The therapist will refer the client to another therapeutic massage professional

  • Reserve the right to refuse service with reasonable cause

    The therapist will not discriminate based on gender, medical conditions, race, etc.

    Reasonable cause will be determined at the therapist’s discretion

  • Pledge of professionalism

    The therapist will dress appropriately for sessions, arrive on time for appointments, and be courteous to all clients

    Abstain from the use of alcohol and drugs

  • Dedication to respect clients, co-workers, and other professionals

    The therapist will show compassion and empathy for others

    The therapist will do no harm to anyone they encounter, professionally or personally

Listed above are my personal code of ethics. Having a personal code of ethics is important for many reasons, but most importantly so that I have a constant standard to uphold for myself and my clients. All of my personal code of ethics are important because I will be basing my practice on thise principles.
